Hawaii Hotel Guide

Hawaii is foremost a large hotel destination. The typical Hawaii hotels are 10-stories high with between 150 and 300 rooms each with a small lanai (terrace). Some mega-resorts have over a thousand rooms and the highest hotels in Waikiki are 30 stories high with fantastic views. Many of the large international hotel chains are represented in Hawaii including more than a dozen Sheraton hotels with a couple from their "luxury collection", two Hyatt properties and several large Hiltons. The local hawaii hotel chain is Outrigger / Oahana which operates more than 25 high rise hotels in Hawaii, mostly around Waikiki Beach. Other hotel chains include the Aston hotels, Marc resorts and Castle which act as management and reservation agents. These chains represent more than 80% of the large hotels in Hawaii.

Room rates at most Hawaii hotels are staggered with hefty premiums for beach views and generous discounts for garden views. Between the two are ocean views, but sometimes this is a dubious label. Room rates at some hotels, especially those around Waikiki Beach, also increase the higher up you go. A luxury hotel beach view room costs about US$400 per night and a standard hotel garden view room about US$100.
