The largest concentration of hawaii accommodation is on the main island of Oahu along Waikiki Beach where there are over 100 high rise hotels packed in a small 1 sq mile area. Only a few of these hotels are absolute beachfront and charge for it. The new resort complex at KoOlina on the south-west coast of Oahu has two hotels at present with more planned for the future but aprt from a few bed and breakfast guesthouses and vacation rentals there's not much else on Oahu.

Maui is the second most popular hotel destination with numerous locations along the entire west coast. Kihei on the south west coast has the highest concentration of hotels, most of which are aimed at the economy and package market as well as being the most popular location for timeshare / owner owned condominiums. To the south is the elegant resort complex of Wailea with several large and ostentatious resorts, manicured golf courses and expensive condominium homes. On West Maui, there are three distinct hotel locations. In the south, extending north from Lahaina town, is Kaanapali with its gorgeous beach, lined with luxury to mid-range hotels. Kahana and Napili offer smaller economy hotels whilst Kapalua has several large luxury golf resorts around three championship golf courses.

On Kauai there are three main tourist stretches - the large resort area of Poipu in the sunny south has the highest concentration of hotels, some alongside the sandy cove beaches and others overlooking the rocky coastline. Princeville on the north coast is a purpose built luxury resort complex with a few large hotels, condominium homes and golf courses. The east coast, known as the Royal Coconut Coast, has a good mix of hotels for all tastes and budgets around the town of Kapaa and further south around Wailua. There's another large golf resort complex overlooking Kalapaki Beach outside the main town and airport of Lihue on the south east coast.

The main concentration of hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii (mostly medium size economy hotels and condominiums) is along Alii Drive which extends from Kailua Town for 10-miles along the south coast. The beaches here are not great but Kailua is a charming seaside town with a laid back atmosphere and is ideal for sightseeing. North of Kailua on the desolate lava fields of west Kohala coast are several large resort complexes in an oasis of man-made greenery alongside gorgeous white sandy beaches, each with two or three large International resorts built around golf courses. The only other hotels on the Big Island can be found in downtown Hilo on the tropical east coast but these are functional hotels rather than relaxing destinations.
